Does Medicaid cover rides to medical appointments?
Often, yes. Medicaid programs generally include rides to covered medical care for members who have no other way to get there. The rules vary by state and by plan, so check with your plan before you book.
Who to ask
Call the member services number on your Medicaid or health plan card, or contact your state's Medicaid agency. Ask whether you qualify for rides, how far ahead to book, and which providers you can use.
What to have ready
- Your member ID.
- The date, time and address of your appointment.
- Whether you need a wheelchair or other help.
- Whether someone will ride with you.
Medicare and other plans
Original Medicare generally does not cover routine rides to appointments. Some Medicare Advantage and private plans include a ride benefit. Rules vary; check with your plan.
Where Carevus fits
Carevus does not decide who is covered and is not a transportation provider. It is a rider app: if your provider uses Carevus, you can book with them and keep track of your rides there.
